Extraintestinal Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (EGIST): Clinical Presentation and Complete R0 Resection

Contrast-enhanced computed tomography typically reveals large, well-circumscribed, heterogeneous soft-tissue masses in the retroperitoneum or omentum. Biopsy confirmation utilizes CD117 (c-kit) and DOG1 positivity to differentiate from leiomyosarcomas and schwannomas. Surgical Strategy: Dr. Sudish emphasizes meticulous handling to prevent capsular breach. Complete en-bloc R0 resection followed by risk stratification using the Miettinen/Fletcher criteria ensures optimized long-term survival with adjuvant targeted therapy.
